VCA Canada Emergency and Referral Centre - Vancouver, Canada

The Challenge
Vancouver desperately needed another ER hospital in the community and this centrally located, 4,000-square-foot animal hospital was the perfect location for the expansion. However, the work plan itself was complicated since the general practice needed to stay open while the adjacent space was constructed, renovated and improved.

The Solution
Halfway through the design process, the general practice was relocated, which opened the door for design possibilities. With a blank canvas, Charles and team were able to reimagine the client experience and added a second floor for staff, offices and conference center. The aged building also required a full seismic upgrade, new utilities, HVAC systems and exterior facelift to reflect the modern medicine and services being brought to the community.
